Disgraced Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes has been rebuffed in her attempt to stay out of federal prison while she appeals her conviction for the fraud she committed while overseeing a blood-testing scam that exposed Silicon Valley’s dark side.In an 11-page ruling issued late Monday, U.S. District Judge Edward Davila concluded there wasn’t compelling enough evidence to allow Holmes to remain free on bail while her lawyers try to persuade an appeals court that alleged misconduct during her four-month trial led to an unjust verdict.The judge’s decision means Holmes, 39, will have to surrender to authorities April 27 to start the more than 11-year prison sentence that Davila imposed in November. A former South Florida teacher was arrested for injuring a student after attempting to break up a fight in a Northwest Miami-Dade school.On Tuesday morning, 30-year-old Joel Insilo appeared in bond court where a judge found probable cause for a misdemeanor of culpable negligence. He was originally charged with felony child abuse after trying to break up a playfight at Kipp Miami’s North Campus on Monday.“He grabs the victim by the arm, tosses him and the victim ends up fracturing his arm,” said an attorney in the bond court.According to the arrest report, Insilo was trying to stop a 12-year-old from horsing around with other students when the injury happened. A gunman has been caught and cuffed after two people were killed in Pompano Beach. The violent shooting was all caught on surveillance video. According to Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony, around 60 rounds were fired at the scene. The Broward Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday morning that 18-year-old Damian Wastene Charmant had been arrested for this shooting.He faces two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.The incident happened in February when a car drove by a convenience store in Pompano Beach and shot at the crowd. Charmant was 17 years old at the time of the shooting. Five people were shot and two were killed. One of the victim’s that was killed, Delana James, was pregnant. One man has been arrested after, police said, he set a mattress on fire in his Miami home and caused a massive blaze. Nelson Granado was charged with first-degree arson and attempted murder on Tuesday.According to a police report, his wife and son believed he started the fire to try to kill them. They said he has been threatening to kill them for the past several months. For the fourth time, Italian judges on Tuesday put off a decision on whether to extradite MEP Andrea Cozzolino to Belgium, his lawyers confirmed to POLITICO.
