Deputy commissioner Jaime Zaninovich became the third executive to depart the Pac-12 this year — but the first to leave voluntarily — when his move to the private sector was revealed last week.In January, the conference terminated the employment of chief financial officer Brent Willman and Pac-12 Networks president Mark Shuken for their roles in the Comcast overpayment scandal. All told, four high-compensated executives have left the conference since George Kliavkoff became commissioner in the summer of 2021, while two others departed in the final stage of Larry Scott’s tenure.Put another way: Kliavkoff has a chance to significantly cut salary costs at the conference office precisely when the schools need it most because of gross mismanagement … at the conference office. The overpayments made by Comcast, which were known to Shuken, Willman and possibly Scott — his role in the scandal remains unclear — are expected to result in the media company with...

In body camera footage that was later released — after police said none would be — one officer said that the cop had been shot by his fellow police. NEW YORK (AP) — Canadian and U.S. banking giant BMO Financial said Thursday it has named Darrell Hackett as its U.S. CEO, promoting an insider and elevating a person of color to a role where there are few at that level in the financial industry. Hackett, who has been with BMO since 2004, will replace Dave Casper, who is planning on retiring this summer. Before this promotion, Hackett was head of BMO’s U.S. Wealth Management division. Hackett also ran the bank’s U.S. business banking division. There are only a handful of Black and Latino senior financial executives in the U.S. The only Black CEO of a major U.S. bank is M&T Bank’s Rene Jones, who took over that role in 2017. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Calling the NBA’s all-time leading scorer — regular season and playoffs — old and just another player might not seem very smart to most folks. For Dillon Brooks, that’s just the Grizzlies’ defender trying to get under LeBron James’ skin. Brooks is one of the NBA’s best defenders. He started off the mind games before their first-round Western Conference series was locked in, saying he wanted to face James and the Lakers. And Brooks didn’t hold back after his Grizzlies tied this series at 1-1 without Ja Morant. Brooks called James a legend yes, but “old” at 38. He added James isn’t the player who won titles in Miami and Cleveland. Brooks, 27, is in the final year of his contract. “I’m creating a name for myself,” Brooks said Wednesday night after a 103-93 win over the Lakers. This is nothing new for Brooks, often called Dillon the Villain in Memphis. He embraces the heel role in a town where wrestling and trash talk is a w...
