BALTIMORE (AP) — J.K. Dobbins ran for an early touchdown before leaving with a torn Achilles tendon, Justice Hill scored twice in the second half and the Baltimore Ravens pulled away for a 25-9 victory over the Houston Texans in their season opener on Sunday.Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced Dobbins’ injury after the game and said he would miss the rest of the season, a significant blow to Baltimore’s offense.Lamar Jackson turned the ball over twice, and Baltimore looked out of sync for much of its first game with new offensive coordinator Todd Monken. But the Ravens kept Houston and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud out of the end zone. The Texans made a game of it for a half under new coach DeMeco Ryans, and Stroud directed a couple of solid drives, but Houston couldn’t move the ball consistently enough. Stroud threw for 242 yards.Jackson threw for 169 yards, and rookie receiver Zay Flowers was the main source of excitement for Baltimore’s new-look offense. He caught nine passes fo...

Charcoal smoke and a newfound-energy among Commanders fans punctuated the air in the parking lots outside FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland Sunday afternoon.“I’m feeling great,” longtime Washington football fan Steve Marsh said while deep-frying chicken. “I feel good. I haven’t felt this way in 15, 20 years.”The fans gathered underneath each tailgate tent seemed to be having the same conversation.“It’s a new beginning, right?” Christian Goodwin asked rhetorically. “New ownership, it’s been 26 years of you-know-what, but it’s a new day.”For some, like Michael Pope, the Commander’s victorious home opener against the Arizona Cardinals at FedEx Field was a sort of reunion.“I took a hiatus over the last two years because of Dan Snyder,” Pope said with tickets in hand. “It’s nice to be focused on the performance on the field and not have to worry about our ownership doing anything.&...

STRAFFAN, Ireland (AP) — Vincent Norrman gave Sweden two straight wins on the European tour when he shot 7-under 65 to capture the Irish Open title on Sunday as Rory McIlroy faltered in the final round by hitting into the water on three holes.A week after 23-year-old Ludvig Aberg won the European Masters in Switzerland to secure a spot on the Ryder Cup team, the 25-year-old Norrman won at The K Club to earn his second victory in two months. He won the Barbasol Championship in July, co-sanctioned by the European and PGA Tour. Play was delayed for about 90 minutes because of bad weather soon after the leading groups teed off, with McIlroy at that stage in a four-way share of the lead on 12-under par. NEW YORK (AP) — A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces will have homecourt advantage throughout the WNBA playoffs — a place they only lost once during the regular season. The defending champions wrapped up the top seed in the postseason before they even stepped on the court Sunday by virtue of New York’s last-second loss to Washington. It wouldn’t have mattered if the Liberty won that game because the Aces beat Phoenix to finish the regular season 34-6.“If you had said 34-6 to me back in May, I would have jumped at that in a second,” Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon said. “And here we are. The amount of energy and effort they put into being professionals, their approach to the game — they were so good.”Las Vegas will open up the best-of-three first round series Wednesday night against eighth-seeded Chicago, which enters the postseason for a fifth straight year. FOXBORO — There’s no such thing as a moral victory in the NFL, or at least there’s no column for it in the standings, but wide receiver Kendrick Bourne was encouraged by the Patriots’ performance after their 25-20 loss to the Eagles in Week 1.Facing a 16-0 deficit early in the game, the Patriots did bounce back against the reigning NFC champions even if ultimately it was not enough in the end.“We definitely feel like we can play with any team,” Bourne said. “Just keep improving every day, not feeling like we arrived. Just playing our game, playing within the scheme and just making the plays when they come. I think that will make us better.”Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | Lies, damned lies, and statistics: What to make of Pats after 1 game New England Patriots | Patriots offensive line not a complete disaster, but not enough in Week 1 loss to Eagles New England Patriots | Patriots rebound from early mistakes but fall...
